The second installation we did for this specific customer was as stated, situated in their kitchen, which was previously their living area. They had an existing fireplace that was to be removed, the chimney reconstructed and a stove to be installed into a created chamber design. Flue liner, sandstone hearths and plaster finish.
The stove they purchased was the, Stovax Vogue small T wood burning stove, which is the latest stove within the popular Vogue Range. The new Vogue small T offers the customer a taller more stylish stove allowing stunning flame visuals, making it perfect for both free-standing and corner installations with a twinwall system. This impressive stove maintains high efficiency levels and burns so clean it produces minimal emission's - making it compliant with the new, forthcoming Ecodesign standards. The Stovax Vogue small T stove features a strong airwash system & new cast iron base bricks for increased durability from loading impacts and is available with a plinth or a midline base, which allows you to store logs underneath the stove. The Vogue small T is Defra approved and can be used in smokeless zones.

As it stood this was our customers existing fireplace. A wooden mantel, a green slate back panel and hearth a clay fire back and an open fire, Baxi Burnall system.
With the kitchen construction now underway, it is time, to remove the existing fireplace and to reconstruct the chimney into the chamber design for the new stove.
Removing the stonework reveals the horror of a badly installed fireplace. The tarring that can be seen here is due to the fireplace not being sealed appropriately.
Now that the fireplace has been completely removed and everything has been cleaned up. The next stage is to open up the chimney, to the original opening.
The gas engineer didn't turn up, to disconnect the fire and so I had to improvise. A bucket to protect the fire was used as I continued with the fireplace removal.
The top half of the original opening is revealed and it's cleaned up. The inner structure is always inspected as the process continues to be shaped into a chamber.
The original builders opening is finally being revealed in full. This rip out had to be done carefully due to the fire still being connected. Normally it is removed.
With the fire now the only thing to be removed from the opening, everything is ready for a sweep of the chimney and integrity test. All ready for the liner.
The fire has now been disconnected. There is a thick, original sandstone lintel currently in place so the only thing to do now is remove the hidden Baxi Burnall.
The fire grate, which comes as a two piece, so as to allow access to the ashbox deep inside the base, is removed. The ashbox also and the base filled in.
With the base filled in as well as the soot box that we discovered at the back, a fire-board chamber is fitted and the base is filled and leveled to the main floor.
The fire-board chamber is now set and the chamber as a whole is prepared and ready for the next stage, which is the steel frame, closure plate & plastering.
The steel frame and closure plate is installed and the plastering is made good and allowed to set for a full front plaster finish after the hearth is installed.
The sandstone hearth is cut, shaped, and installed. A flue liner is installed, cut and prepared for the stove to go in at the end. Next stage is a front plaster finish.
The face of the chimney beast, is plastered, allowed to dry out and then its painted. Skirtings are cut and fitted up to the hearth, ready for painting. Just the stove left.
By having this stunning Stovax Vogue small T wood-burning stove installed in their kitchen, our customer was able to attain a beautiful modern look whilst at the same time, having a dangerous fireplace - unknowingly to them - removed from their property. With a flue liner installed into the chimney it ensures complete and safe, uninterrupted passage of waste flue gases, from the stove to the outside air. We supply and install flue liners in all lengths and diameters for all appliances, see HERE for full details.
Pictured here, with a painted, fire-board chamber and natural sandstone hearth, we think it beautifully blends into the surrounding decor, especially the karndean floor.
